Pine Belts Best - Spotlight - Kyle Jones
Q - How long have you been in the human resources field? I began working in the HR field in April 2005.
Q - What lead you to this career path? Did you choose this field or did it choose you? A meeting with two of the company’s owners led me to HR. I did not choose HR – HR chose me.
Q - What has been your greatest professional accomplishment to date? My greatest professional accomplishment to date would be serving both on the local and state levels of SHRM boards in various capacities. This has opened doorways, windows, etc. to allow connecting with great people who I might not have met otherwise.
Q - What task gives you the greatest satisfaction? Being able to mark any task – whatever it might be – as DONE gives me the greatest satisfaction because it means I’ve taken the task from A to Z.
Q - What is, or was, your greatest professional challenge? Going to work on a Friday as an employee but returning to work on Monday as “The HR Guy.” Luckily, I had a supportive company and two HR professionals, Karen Shemper and Crystal Crawford, who helped guide me to the information I needed.
Q - What is your best advice for other human resources professionals? Join SHRM – local and national. This isn’t my simply wishing to promote SHRM but a recommendation based on my own personal experiences. The price paid for national membership is well worth the fee. This is especially true when the amount of educational resources available is calculated. The connections made on the local chapter level, however, have been priceless.
